Mrs. Abdouch

Welcome!  My name is Kori Abdouch.  I have been the art teacher at Catlin since 1994.  I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Art, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  As an artist/art teacher, I also create and show my work at local and regional galleries.

Since Catlin became a magnet school for the arts in 2000, I have been instrumental in developing our unique art curriculum.  I have worked closely with local art organizations and artists, and written grants to bring artists-in-residence and special art projects and other art opportunities to Catlin.

I have also served on the OPS Art Curriculum Development/Writing Team for many years.  I have been a presenter and participant in state, district, and national conferences.  I was honored to be the recipient of the Nebraska Art Teachers Association’s Nebraska Elementary Art Educator of the Year award (2004), the Omaha Arts on the Green-Art Educator of the Year award (2005), and the Nebraska Art Teachers Association’s Nebraska Art Educator of the Year award (2008).

These quotes reflect my philosophy about the importance of art, creativity, and wonder in our lives, and the lives of our children

"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."  Pablo Picaso

"Imagination is more important than knowledge."  Albert Einstein

"It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child."  Pablo Picasso

Guest Artist: Andrew Peters

Nationally Acclaimed Landscape Painter Visits Catlin Arts Magnet!

On October 2, Catlin Arts Magnet welcomed artist Andrew Peters who shared a pictorial history of the 1832-1834 expedition of the artist Karl Bodmer and Prince Maximilian.  The presentation integrated the Visual arts with Social Studies and Science.  Peters also shared his personal, inspirational story of how the art of Bodmer and John James Audubon inspired his own life of travel, adventure, and living and painting throughout the world.  Mr. Peters gave two presentations to 4th grade students. Students at Crestridge Magnet School watched one of the presentations using Distance Learning Technology.

On October 9th, Peters came back to give an outdoor, Plein Air painting demonstration.  Peters modeled everything from how he sets up his easel to signing his name on his finished painting.  Students and staff were mesmerized!  Following the demonstration, students created their own outdoor artworks of the surrounding school grounds using special oil pastels.  The brisk day was warmed by this rare opportunity.  We thank Mr. Peters for sharing his time and talents with us!
