Dear Catlin Arts Magnet Families,
As we prioritize the health
and safety of our community, we continue to look for the best
opportunities to engage our students academically.
may have workbooks, journals or other items left at school that would
help them continue to learn. Beginning Friday, for Catlin, we will have
time available at school for your family to gather those things to take
home. Family pick-up will begin Friday and conclude on Monday between
the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Here is how that process will work:
· Arrive from Shirley Street – north-east side of the parking lot and proceed south
Upon arrival, proceed to the east entrance – this is the area usually
reserved for district transportation and will be marked with cones
· Proceed to roll down your window and a staff member will greet you –
DO NOT EXIT YOUR VEHICLE!!!
· The staff member will come to your vehicle –
Tell the staff member your child’s first & last name – some
families will have more than one child with different names and/or grade
levels – you do not need to pick up multiple times – we will have
everything for your family
o PLEASE DO NOT EXIT YOUR VEHICLE!!!
o A staff member will bring your child’s belongings in a bag(s) with their name on it to your vehicle.
o Once you receive the items, exit the campus to the south toward Marinda Street
To facilitate pick-up as efficiently as possible, we ask that parents or guardians do not visit school with their student(s).
is completely optional for your family and will be done in a way that
prioritizes the health and safety of our families and staff. If you or
someone in your home is not feeling well, please do not visit school.
is important to note that this does not reflect any change to our
communication regarding the district closure. We are closed with no
tentative return date, regularly assessing the health conditions and
guidance in our community.
Again, this pick-up is optional for
your family. Learning packets for elementary students will be added in
the weeks to come to the district academic resources page. Digital
resources will be added regularly on the page as well. Teachers are
available by email with any questions your family and student may have.

We are excited to share with parents that beginning with the 2017-18 school year, OPS will implement an adjusted grading scale. Over the last two years, Omaha Public Schools staff have been working to evaluate the grading practices across the district. Under the previous grading scale, teachers have expressed concern that some students can achieve a “proficient” grade in a course even though they have only completed minimal work in the course. OPS is committed to providing students and families with an accurate representation of students’ learning. OPS field tested an adjusted grading scale throughout the 2016-17 school year. After analyzing field-test data and gathering feedback from parents, students and staff, there was strong support for the more rigorous field-tested grading scale.
